“Invest in your work life balance. Time with family and friends is as important as times at work. Getting that out of balance is a path towards unhappiness” (Stephen Gillett)
Work-Life Balance is defined by our ability to balance work life with commitments in our personal life. Life demands are things like; setting time aside to socialise, engaging in sports or exercise, spending time with children/family and making time for other personal demands.
It’s about learning how to best balance our lives and meet expectations.
Life is 24/7, especially with the world of technology we live in giving us access every minute of everyday. When it’s not technology, it’s our minds juggling a million things and generally never switching off, even when we do get to bed to get some shut eye. It’s exhausting!! If we don’t have the right support, the right plan and the right resources to manage this well it can all quickly spiral where we have no sense of control of our world and we don’t feel like we are completing or achieving anything very well. This can, in time have a huge negative impact on our work life and our personal life. In effect OUR ENITRE WORLD.
A 2011 study conducted by medibank private revealed 1 in 10 people experience high levels of stress due to unbalanced work and life.i Stress can lead to health problems and can be fatal. Stress overflows into all areas of our life and affects our relationships, sleep patterns, eating habits, wellbeing and most of all our ability to cope well and enjoy life.
The rollover impact of un managed work life balance is less productive, focused and engaged teams. This affects happiness, culture and the bottom line.
